About us / How to join

North Sea Paddlesports is a friendly paddlesports club for stand up paddleboarders and sit-on-top kayakers aged 18+.We’re based in Cullercoats and bring together people who enjoy getting out on the water, building confidence, developing skills and exploring the coast with others. What we doFrom April to mid-September, we meet on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm in Cullercoats. These sessions are free to attend and led by qualified coaches and leaders. Most sessions involve either a relaxed coastal paddle or skills coaching in the bay, depending on the conditions. Our focus is coastal touring, but our membership is diverse and includes paddle surfers, SUP racers and general fitness paddlers.During the winter months, we keep things ticking over with occasional pool sessions, inland trips and social paddles when conditions allow.Membership dues are £30 per year, our membership year runs 1 May to 30 April.Trips awayWe love paddling beyond our home waters too. Each year, members organise a small number of trips away. Recent club adventures have included the Lake District, Anglesey, the Scottish Highlands and Croatia. These trips are a great way to paddle new places, meet other members and build confidence in different environments.Skills and leadershipWe’re also keen to help members progress.Whether you want to improve your personal paddling, build safety skills or work towards becoming a leader or instructor, the club can support your development. We regularly run Paddlesports Leader courses and encourage members to take the next step when they’re ready.Who can join?We welcome adult paddlers who already have their own equipment and can paddle short distances comfortably. You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to be able to look after yourself on the water, manage your own kit and take part safely in a group paddle. At the moment, we don’t have club equipment available to loan, so members do need their own board or sit-on-top kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid and suitable clothing.Total beginnersIf you’re completely new to paddling, we recommend taking a lesson or two before joining the club.Local providers such as CBK Adventures and Tynemouth SUP Boarder can help you get started, learn the basics and build the confidence you’ll need before joining club sessions.Ready to join us?If you have your own kit, can paddle short distances and would like to get out on the water with a friendly adult club, we’d be pleased to welcome you.Tap the button below to join North Sea Paddlesports.
